Amten Learn
Version 2026-10-28

Privacy Policy

We collect what we need to build and run your courses, send parts of it to AI providers that process it for us, never sell it, and let you export or delete your account at any time.

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Amten ("Amten", "we", "us" or "our"), based in San Mateo, California, collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use Amten Learn and its related services (the "Service"). It is part of our Terms of Use. Questions or requests: privacy@amten.ai.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us:

  • Account details: your email address and name, and, if you sign in through our sign-in provider, the identifiers it gives us.
  • Age and consent records: the year of birth you enter, the versions of our terms you accepted, and when and how you accepted them.
  • Learning requests: what you want to learn, your goal, level and time, anything you tell us about yourself (such as your role, interests or reasons), links or sources you add, and choices you make while a course builds (look, narrator, familiarity).
  • Learning activity: questions you ask in Ask, quiz and checkpoint answers and how sure you were, requests for simpler explanations or deep dives, playback position, progress and completion.
  • Publishing and reports: the byline you choose, courses you publish, and reports you submit about public courses.
  • Messages you send us, such as support, privacy or copyright requests.

Information collected automatically:

  • Cookies and similar storage: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, a device cookie that keeps an anonymous draft yours until you sign in, and browser storage for conveniences such as a pending build request or player settings.
  • Usage and technical data: IP address, browser and device type, pages and courses viewed, timestamps, errors and server logs, and counts used for rate limits and abuse prevention.
  • Cost and credit records: the credits each build, question or feature uses.

We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

3. How we use information

  • To provide the Service: research sources, plan and build courses for you, narrate them, write quizzes, answer your questions and remember your progress.
  • To personalize learning: adapt later modules to your answers and to what you told us about yourself, within the course you asked for.
  • To keep the Service safe and accurate: moderate requests and output, check claims against sources, prevent abuse and fraud, enforce credit budgets and rate limits, and enforce our Terms.
  • To operate and improve the Service: measure quality, reliability and cost, debug problems, and develop new features.
  • To communicate with you about your account, changes to our terms, and requests you make.
  • To comply with law and protect the rights, property and safety of Amten, our users and others.

We do not use your requests, questions or answers to train our own or third-party foundation AI models.

4. AI processing

To build and run courses, we send parts of your requests, the things you tell us about yourself, your questions and the sources involved to AI model providers that process them on our behalf (see section 5). Their output is generated automatically and may be inaccurate; see the Terms of Use. Where providers offer it, we configure requests so they are not stored or used to train the provider's models, but each provider keeps data according to its own policies, for example briefly for abuse monitoring.

Please do not include sensitive personal information (such as health conditions, government identifiers, financial account numbers or information about other people) in your requests, links or questions. If you do, it will be processed as described here.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share it only as follows:

  • Service providers who process it for us under contract, including: AI model, speech, image and web-search providers (such as OpenAI and, when used, Google); a page-reading service (Firecrawl) for sources that refuse our own reader; GPU hosting for narration (Modal); our sign-in provider (Clerk); and cloud hosting and database providers (such as Railway).
  • Websites and publishers: to research a course we request pages from public websites; those sites see a request from our servers, not your identity.
  • Public courses: if you publish a course, it becomes visible to anyone, with the byline you choose (your name or "An Amten learner"). Your personal deep dives, simpler explanations, questions, answers and progress stay private.
  • Shared illustrations: a picture generated for a course may be reused in other learners' courses only when it was not based on links you added and an automated check finds nothing specific to you in it; otherwise only your own courses reuse it.
  • Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, legal process or a government request, or needed to protect the rights, property or safety of Amten, our users or the public, or to investigate fraud or abuse.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or sale of assets, subject to this Policy's protections.
  • With your consent or at your direction.

We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

6. How long we keep information

We keep account information and your courses, progress, answers and questions for as long as your account exists, unless you delete them sooner. Some data is deleted on a schedule:

  • sign-in sessions: 30 days;
  • cached copies of fetched web pages: 30 days;
  • build event logs: 30 days after a course finishes;
  • rate-limit counters: 2 days;
  • under-age blocks: 24 hours.

When you delete your account, we delete your courses (with their narration and private pictures), progress, answers, questions and sessions. Records of what the Service cost are kept without any link to you. Public illustrations that other courses use, backups (overwritten in the normal course) and records we must keep by law or to resolve disputes, enforce our Terms or prevent abuse may persist for a limited time.

7. Your choices and rights

From your account settings you can export everything stored for your account as a file, and delete your account and its data. You can unpublish a course at any time. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, but the Service needs its session cookie to keep you signed in.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access or correct it, to delete it, to receive a portable copy, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, email privacy@amten.ai from your account email. We will verify your request before acting on it, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows.

8. California residents

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you the rights described in section 7. In the past 12 months we collected the categories of personal information described in section 2: identifiers (such as email address and IP address), customer records, characteristics such as age, internet and other electronic activity, inferences about your learning, and other information you choose to give us. We collect them from you, your device and our sign-in provider, for the purposes in section 3, and disclose them for business purposes to the categories of recipients in section 5. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. We use sensitive personal information only to provide the Service and as the law permits, not to infer characteristics about you.

Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of; browser signals such as Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control do not change how we process your information.

9. Users outside the United States

Amten is based in the United States and stores and processes information in the United States and wherever our service providers operate. If you use the Service from another country, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States, whose data protection laws may differ from yours. Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on performing our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running a safe and useful Service, your consent where we ask for it, and compliance with legal obligations.

10. Children

Accounts are only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or create accounts for anyone under 18. If someone enters a year of birth under 18, we do not create an account, we delete the anonymous drafts made on that device, and we block the device from entering a new year for 24 hours. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact privacy@amten.ai and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, encrypted storage of service keys, access controls and limits on what our systems fetch. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe.

12. Third-party sites

Courses link to and cite third-party websites. Their privacy practices are their own, and this Policy does not cover them. Please review their policies before giving them any information.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the version date at the top and ask you to review and accept the new Policy the next time you use the Service.
